Spring in to the Season at Drumlanrig

Drumlanrig Gardens and Adventure Playground will re-open in time for Easter. After having to abandon plans for Easter 2020, the staff at Drumlanrig are delighted to be able to re-open for local visitors this year.

Opening on Good Friday, 2nd April, the Gardens and Playground will be open Friday to Monday for the Easter holidays, then Friday to Sunday.

The Adventure Playground is a firm favourite with little ones. With daring tall climbing nets and long dark tunnel slides, it’s no surprise children want to return again and again! Parents are also well looked after with a new picnic area and take away refreshments available from the Larchwood Cabin, which opened last year.

Visitors can also enjoy the lovingly tended Drumlanrig Gardens. 40 acres of space that offers both inspiration and relaxation to everyone. Visitors can appreciate the restored Victorian glasshouses as well as the distinctive Heather Houses, and enjoy the signs of Spring which are popping up all around, with daffodils, rare erythroniums, hellebores, and a stunning collection of magnolias usually flowering in April on the Long Wall Border.

Claire Oram, Castle Manager at Drumlanrig, said: “We are so pleased to be able to re-open for our visitors. We missed the buzz and friendly faces last Easter. We are aware things aren’t back to normal quite yet but opening the Gardens and Playground is a step in the right direction! The safety of all of our visitors and staff is paramount to us, so we are asking people to book in advance, maintain social distancing and we are limiting numbers and will be providing hand sanitisation stations. Drumlanrig might not feel quite the same as before, but the welcome will be just as warm”

Unfortunately, due to the on-going social distancing requirements and the delicate nature of Drumlanrig Castle, the Castle, Tearoom and Gift Shop will remain closed for the time being.

The wider Country Estate is also open with free access, so visitors can come and enjoy the walks and mountain bike trails at any time. So whether it’s a tranquil stroll through the colourful gardens, an exhilarating cycle on the mountain bike trails, or fun filled hours in the Adventure Playground – Drumlanrig has something that all the family can enjoy this year.

The Gardens & Playground will be open from 11am-4pm Friday to Sunday each weekend in April and June and open selected Mondays for Easter and May bank holidays. Entry is £6 for Adults, £4.50 for Concessions and £3.50 for Children (under 5’s free). Gardens & Country Estate Season Tickets are also available. Online booking is essential, especially for the Adventure Playground, and is available now via the website.
