Dumfries and Galloway Environment Fair Moves Online

Dumfries and Galloway’s annual Environment Fair is moving online this month to bring the outdoors in to people’s homes.

The event, which takes place on Sunday May 31, is a firm favourite of nature lovers and families who flock to the Crichton Campus each year to enjoy fun activities.

With the lockdown currently in place, organisers Dumfries and Galloway Outdoor and Woodland Learning Group had to rethink the event for this year and move it online.

Co-chair and Freelance Ranger Elizabeth Tindall said: “People are more engaged than ever in their local environment. The opportunity to enjoy it has been so limited in lockdown that every minute we can has been so important to our wellbeing.
“It seemed a great shame not to tap into this interest and do our part to continue to share the natural wonders of our region so continuing the Environment Fair online seemed like the perfect solution.”

A mixture of pre-recorded and live events will showcase outdoor and environment activities that viewers can enjoy, all with a lockdown flavour, including backyard cooking, shelter making and plant identification.

There will be a chance to explore different habitats from pondlife and gardens to the coast and the Fair will also highlight the work of communities and how they are helping to look after the local environment.

Attendees also have the chance to sign up to interactive learning experiences covering topics such as Dark Skies, Sustainable Tourism and Science in the Garden.

The Fair’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/EnvironmentFair/ will detail all the events and timings.
