Entertainers showcasing the very best of country life lined up today (Saturday) to get Galloway Country Fair off to a flying start.
This year’s headliner, quad bike stunt man Paul Hannam and fellow stunt rider Radford Chugg; horse whisperer Grant Bazin; Lee Hartis with his Galloway gun dogs; Blackstone Clydesdales’ Hanna Shankland; and Roger Smith of Borderlines lined up under starter’s orders at the stunning Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate.
Josh (7) and Max (4) Hiddleston of Kirkconnel waved the flag on the start of the Fair, signalling the opening of the gates to thousands of visitors ready to enjoy the highlight of the rural events calendar.
Highlights of day one’s packed schedule included incredible stunts from both Paul and Dougie and a host of family-friendly activities as well as the chance to try out an array of country pursuits.
Avid foodies enjoyed cooking demonstrations showcasing the very best of local produce in the Galloway Demo Kitchen – with some lucky Fair-goers given the chance to try a unique whisky sauce made from a £1milion cask single malt, Man o’ Word.
Visitors also had the chance to browse hundreds of stalls from homeware, gifts and textiles to food and drink and the best of countryside clothing and equipment from local businesses including Border Candles and others from further afield, such as Joules, which made its Galloway Country Fair debut.
Anna Fergusson, Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate Manager, said: “We’ve had a brilliant start to this year’s Galloway Country Fair, with show-stopping entertainment providing a real spectacle for visitors.
“Sunday promises to be just as fantastic, with more thrilling performances in the Buccleuch ring as well as our packed show ground with traders, more food and drink demos and plenty to keep the children entertained too. We’re sure visitors will have a great day out.”
Tickets are available on Sunday from the entry kiosk of Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate.
