Families Encouraged to Get on Their Bikes in D&G This Summer

Dumfries and Galloway families will have the chance to get pedalling this summer with a free event allowing them to try out various options for cycling with children of all ages. Families who already cycle with their children will be bringing along their bikes, childseats, trailers and tagalongs to Dock Park from 12 to 2 on Saturday 2nd June to demonstrate to others. Along with a mechanic who will be checking bikes over and doing basic maintenance, there will be balance bike fun for the younger kids and the event will end with a ‘kidical mass’ ride along the river and back.

Cycling Dumfries are organising the ‘Bike Curious’ workshop with the support of Cycling UK to kick off their season of summer rides for all ages and abilities, which run every Saturday at 2pm in July and August, also from Dock Park. They are encouraging cycling and non-cycling families alike to come along and share experiences or try out solutions for getting around with children by bike.

Sally Hinchcliffe, Co-ordinator of Cycling Dumfries, said ‘We know that many people in Dumfries would like to cycle more with their families but they don’t always know what the options are for cycling safely and easily with young children. We’re inviting the real experts – families who already cycle – to come and show off their bikes and kit, and swap tricks and tips. For those just getting started it will be a chance to try out various options and ask questions from people who have gone down that road before them.’
