GRUFFALO STATUE IN MEMORY OF NATURALIST ‘ALAN RICHARDS’ TO BE UNVEILED AT ALDOURAN

Greet the Gruffalo

When the volunteers at Aldouran Wetland Garden at Leswalt lost their beloved naturalist Alan Richards they, along with Alan’s family, decided that the most appropriate memorial to Alan, with his gentle, quirky sense of humour, would be a carved Gruffalo to top off the woodland Sculpture Trail designed by the children of the project.

The Gruffalo will complete the trail which at present includes woodland creatures, fairy homes and a story telling circle beside which the Gruffalo will stand.

He has been carved by Rodney Holland of Moniaive and funded by the Holywood Trust with donations from the Richards family, Aldouran Wetland Garden volunteers and the young people of the Aldouran Wetland Watchers.

His arrival into the wood next Thursday is to be marked by a fun afternoon including a Best Dressed Gruffalo competition, Gruffalo Orienteering, mask making, face painting and other Gruffalo themed activities and cakes for the children.

Thursday 7th July 2016 from 2.00pm – 4.00pm.
