Learn more about our Migrating Geese – A family friendly event, 25th Oct @ Threave Nature Reserve

Are you interested in unleashing your imagination while learning about the flight routes of Threave Nature Reserve’s Geese? On 25th of October, lots of fun activities are planned as part of the ‘Goose Journeys & Climate Change event’.

Part of the Wild Goose Festival, this event will use a variety of creative, interactive and fun activities to bring the journey of the geese to life. Children’s stories, blogs & artwork really lift the lid on what we know about these amazing birds and how their movements are changing.

This is a partnership event National Trust for Scotland’s Threave Rangers, the Galloway Glens Scheme and the Galloway & Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere – forming part of the Wild Goose Festival.

This is a chance to join the team to learn about the flight route of the Threave Nature Reserve’s Geese and how climate change is affecting their journeys. In this interdisciplinary workshop you will be inspired by cutting edge ecological tracking technology to imagine the journeys and the future challenges for our Threave Geese.

There will be two sessions from 10am – 12.30pm and 1.00pm – 3.30pm, starting with an introduction to Goose News, followed by a Treasure Hunt around the Threave estate where you will learn more about our feathered friends and play with the technology being used to track the Geese. Then there will be a choice of creative ‘Goose’ activities where you will be invited to unleash your imagination and tell the stories of the environmental challenges facing the geese on their intrepid journeys. Creative outputs include the opportunity to create blogs, artworks and children’s stories aimed at enchanting and sharing the environmental challenges facing our Geese.

We will be walking through the nature reserve and learn about these journeys from ecologists and then you can take part in the creative workshops which will encourage you to share your ideas of Goose travelling in the future.
