Newton Stewart Walking Festival showcases Galloway
Walkers from around the country have descended on Newton Stewart over the past week for the annual Newton Stewart Walking Festival.
Around 200 individuals have been enjoying the beautiful weather and the wide variety of walking opportunities provided by the hills, coast and rolling countryside of Galloway.
Chair of the volunteer committee who organise the event, Joan Mitchell said: “We are delighted to have welcomed many people to Newton Stewart who have never been to our festival before, as well old friends who join us each year.”
This year’s festival has been possible due to generous support of Dumfries and Galloway Council and Stewart R Cunningham Outdoor Centre as well as great assistance from Galloway Mountain Rescue Team and Wigtownshire Ramblers, and our many other volunteer guides. The festival is one of only a handful of events certified as supporting the principles of the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere. Newton Stewart is one of only a handful of places in Scotland designated as a Walkers Are Welcome town.
