Spring Events Planned At Cumbrian Historic House & Gardens

VISITORS can explore the gardens and grounds of an historic house near Carlisle this month as part of a season of Spring events.

Netherby Hall, near Longtown, will welcome visitors as part of the National Garden Scheme on Sunday, May 14 and host its annual Spring Craft Fair the following weekend on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21.

More than 20 local craft makers and artists will be showcasing their work at the Spring Craft Fair which has free entry and parking. The event takes place in Netherby Hall’s Oak Hall and Orangery and visitors will also have the opportunity to look around the gardens and grounds of the hall, which runs to 36 acres and includes a restored walled garden.

The walled garden will also be one of the star attractions on the National Garden Scheme open day on May 14. The one-and-a-half acre garden, which features two replica Victorian glasshouses, supplies fruit, vegetables and herbs to the Michelin starred Pentonbridge Inn. The restaurant at nearby Penton is a sister business to Netherby Hall, with the kitchen team working closely with the gardeners at Netherby Hall to source ingredients for its seasonally-inspired eight-course set tasting menu.

Netherby Hall is a Grade II* listed mansion on a private estate just outside Longtown and includes nine luxury self-catering holiday apartments and cottages.

Netherby Hall’s National Garden Scheme open day runs from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, May 14, adult £6, child free. Refreshments available.

Spring Craft Fair on May 20 and 21 runs from 10am to 4pm both days, free entry. Food and drink will be available.
