The Poppy Scotland ‘Bud’ Truck To Visit Devils Porridge Museum

Visitors to The Devil’s Porridge Museum in Eastriggs, Dumfries and Galloway, this weekend will have one more thing to explore.  The Poppy Scotland ‘Bud’ Truck will be parked outside on Sunday from 10am-4pm.  Bud is travelling Scotland sharing archive materials, veterans’ stories and the poppy’s heritage. It is designed to help us to challenge assumptions and create conversations.

“As a Museum whose main focus is World War One” commented Judith Hewitt, Museum Manager, “we are thrilled to have Bud here and to ensure that the work of the people of this region in both World Wars is recognised.  Our main focus is HM Factory Gretna in World War One where 30,000 workers (12,000 of them women) mixed the devil’s porridge in the greatest factory on earth.  Their work helped turn the tide of the War and gain the vote for women.  Our displays go beyond World War One to explore conflict in the region from 1939 onwards as part of the Solway Military Coast.  So many things happened here during World War Two and later such as RAF bases, evacuees, Prisoners of War…our visitors enjoy learning about these stories too.  We think Bud is doing important work ensuring people remember and we are pleased to support this initiative.  We hope our visitors enjoy the experience of exploring Bud.”

Visiting Bud will be free however there is a charge to enter The Devil’s Porridge Museum and online booking is strongly recommended.
