The second Stroll in the Park walking activity group stepped into action on last month at Carlingwark Loch in Castle Douglas.
The low-level walks take place on alternate Thursday’s, meeting at the Loch at 2pm. They are aimed at anyone who is living with or recovering from a long-term condition. They are ideal for anyone wishing to continue their recovery or maintain a level of fitness by means of developing strength and balance, confidence and enjoying being part of a group of like-minded people in the beautiful surroundings of the Carlingwark Loch. Volunteer walk leader, Stuart Black from Capability Scotland will lead the fortnightly walks.
The next walk takes place on Thursday 10 October.
Funding from Paths for All enabled Dumfries and Galloway Council to hold Walk Leader training and Strength and Balance training which saw 25 people from across the region attend. Following the launch of the first Stroll in Dumfries and now this second Stroll in Castle Douglas it is hoped that more volunteers will come forward and we start to see more Stroll in the Park walks popping up throughout the region.
The Stroll in the Park’s, which is organised by the Council’s Health and Wellbeing team, are not only important in terms of physical wellbeing, they also provide a very valuable social opportunity for people to get together.

“It is great to see new health and wellbeing focused walks starting in Dumfries and Galloway. The introduction of such initiatives will help people live healthier and more independent lives.
