Enjoy Some Wildlife spotting at Drumlanrig Estate this Month

Throughout October, Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate is hosting hands-on events for budding Junior Rangers including creating autumn leaf luminaries and weaving a wildlife hide out to spot animals on the Estate.

On Wednesday 17 October, youngsters can join the Rangers at Drumlanrig to marvel at the changing colours of leaves across the woodland and collect some to create an autumnal lantern. The two hour workshop from 10am-12pm is suitable for children aged 8-16 years old and costs £2 each.

On Wednesday 24 October, outdoor and wildlife enthusiasts can help the Rangers weave a wildlife hide out with willow and hazel. Kids can then perch inside and use binoculars to spy animals that inhabit the Estate. Hedgehogs, squirrels and birds are just some examples of what can be spotted during the workshop from 10am-12pm. This activity is also suitable for children aged 8-16 years old and costs £2 each.

Out-with the workshops, young explorers can unleash their inner Indiana Jones at the Castle’s Adventure Playground or visitors of all ages can peruse the flourishing gardens which are open 10am-4pm daily.

Claire Oram, Castle Manager at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: “With the leaves changing colour and the crisp frosty air our gardens and woodlands are very picturesque.
“Our Rangers take great pride in their work and there are so many benefits of being outdoors and learning new skills. We hope to welcome lots of children and families to our October workshops.”
