Drumlanrig Castle have been working with Founder of the popular local photography Facebook Group ‘Dumfries & Galloway Through a Lens’ on a very exciting new project for the group.
Jade White founder of DGTL has been Planning this event since Dec 2016, Jade contacted the Castle towards the end of last year introducing the group and explaining the talent within the group and asked if the castle would be interested in running a little competition for the Group to showcase some of the members works.
Jade had a meeting with the Drumlanrig Estate Team, the team had been watching the group grow and the quality of photographs from all over D & G and stated they would like to support the group with a prize based competition. Jade stated she is overwhelmed with the support from the whole team from the castle, The Team have been enjoying the themes Jade gives her members and the team suggested Castle Garden Theme to coincide with the opening of the Castle 1st April 2017.
In order to manage the event it was decided Jade and her team would set a limit of 100 members, the 100 members would receive a Dumfries & Galloway Through a Lens Limited Edition Badge and A Special Pass created by the Drumlanrig Castle Team, this would allow them free entry to the Castle Gardens and Country Park where the members would take their photographs of the amazing gardens . The competition will run from 1st April until 20th April, each member will upload 10 photos to a special Album, linked to Drumlanrig Castle Facebook Page, There will be three prizes 1st Prize is £50 restaurant voucher for Buccleuch & Queensberry Arms Hotel then 2nd & 3rd Prizes are family season tickets for Drumlanrig Castle & Gardens for 2017. The three winners will have their selected photos displayed in the Castles visitor centre – what an opportunity for our local photographers, to have their work displayed and be part of such a fabulous competition.
Jade told DGWGO “It’s been so hard to keep this quiet, I never thought for one moment that somewhere as amazing as Drumlanrig Castle would support my little group, their support and input has been invaluable and really shows Community Spirit, Jade went onto say my members are super active all ages and all levels within photography, but that is what makes my group different, everyone interacts, tips, advise and support, friendships are being formed within the group.”
Jade continued “Our group members will have a real chance to show off their talent, the admin team Sheila Stubbs, Pauline McCreadie and Mike Howes have been amazing working behind the scenes getting everything ready to go live with this event. We also wanted to give something back so we have charged our members £3.00 each per entry into the competition, we have to cover costs of badges and printing so the other half of the money will be going to our chosen charity D & G Blood Bikes. Its very important to us all to give a little back to our community especially when we have so much support from the Region, these last few months have been amazing for our group.”
The three winners will be announced on Saturday 29th April 2017
