BARONY COLLEGE IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS AND WELCOMING COURSE APPLICATIONS

SRUC’s Barony campus based on the Parkgate estate is very much open for business and welcoming applications for the next academic year starting in August 2016.
Dean of Campus Professor Dave Roberts sets the record straight following recent inaccurate rumours and campaigns suggesting otherwise:
“I would like to remind everyone in the region, especially prospective students, that the Barony Campus is open for business. SRUC is committed to remaining in Dumfries and Galloway and we will continue delivering high-quality land-based courses for years to come.
“We are actively recruiting for courses starting in August, and these will take place at the Barony Campus. We are currently running a series of informative and interactive open days, and I invite young people, prospective students and their parents to come along and find out more about the courses we offer and the range of fulfilling careers they lead to.
“In the face of uncertain future funding SRUC is reviewing its entire estate, which includes campuses, offices and research facilities right across Scotland, and considering various options which will enable the organisation to be sustainable in the long term. As part of this, the Barony Campus could be relocated, with staff and courses joining their colleagues at the Crichton Campus. The campus is currently home to the College’s Dumfries based SAC Consultants and SRUC’s internationally recognised Dairy Research and Innovation Centre with associated Research Farm, as well as other educational institutions such as Dumfries and Galloway College.
“We would like to ensure that at whichever site we deliver from we will provide the practical training across all subjects which is so vital to our students. If SRUC does relocate to the Crichton Campus, state of the art new facilities will be built in order to meet the needs of students and staff – which will enhance the already vibrant and inspiring academic and research community at Crichton.“
Janet Swadling, Acting Chief Executive and Principal, says:
“A viable future for our staff and students is our priority. SRUC is proud of the education it delivers at Barony and our experienced and dedicated staff. We are keeping staff and students appraised of any developments.
“Change is not always easy but I urge the local community to support SRUC while we identify the best possible option which will ensure a strong and valuable long term future in Dumfries and Galloway.”
