Scotland’s Rural College Prospectus Shortlisted for UK marketing ‘Oscars’

Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) has been shortlisted for a prestigious higher education marketing award for the 2016 Prospectus.

SRUC has been named as a finalist in the Higher Education Information Services Trust (HEIST) Awards – recognised as the sector’s marketing Oscars for the UK.

In the Best Specialist Institution Prospectus category SRUC will now go head to head with English rival institution Harper Adams University for the award. The competition also includes other more specialised higher education establishments including the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Glasgow School of Art.

This is the second time this year the SRUC 2016 Prospectus has been shortlisted for an award. In March it was awarded a Bronze in the Promotional Literature category at the Scottish College Development Network Marketing Awards.

The HEIST awards celebrate their 25th anniversary this year – with over 70 institutions having entered. They celebrate “truly extraordinary work across the sector – from the smallest regional college to huge global brands.”

SRUC’s 2016 Prospectus was shortlisted on criteria including costing of design, production and printing, overall objectives, rationale and evaluation of effectiveness.

The winners will be announced at the Roaring Twenties themed Heist Awards on 07 July in Manchester.

Hannah D’Mellow, marketing and student recruitment manager, said: “We are very proud to be shortlisted in what are the Oscars for marketing in the UK higher education field.

“We are extremely proud of the 2016 prospectus which we worked very hard on. The 2016 prospectus was for the first time produced as a combined FE/HE brochure – which was a huge, yet exciting challenge. We introduced many new features in order to present the information to the wider range of audiences that this prospectus serves

“The prospectus is a critical part of our recruitment material – a recent survey of all new students to SRUC cited it as the second most used interaction with the College, after the website.

“The Best Specialist Institution Prospectus is a very competitive category, so to be shortlisted for a such a prestigious UK-wide award is really fantastic and rewarding.”

David James, SRUC head of education added: “I am absolutely delighted to learn that the 2016 Prospectus has been shortlisted for the HEIST Awards. This is a great achievement and I would like to congratulate the marketing team on their efforts.

“They work incredibly hard to raise the profile of our students and courses – and to promote the support this nationally important organisation provides to the land-based industries.”
