Get ready for a family day filled with fun and adventure at the SRUC Barony Campus Open Day! Taking place on Sunday 31 May, the popular annual event promises hands-on activities, full-on fun and exciting displays to watch, as well as delicious refreshments including afternoon teas.
The Barony Campus Open Day is designed around the unique activities, facilities and subjects that students use at the college. It’s a family day out for all ages with highlights including the new addition of trial bikes doing hair-raising stunts over a range of obstacles, dog agility shows which run several times throughout the day, and the opportunity to get up close to and handle numerous small furry animals and reptiles with our Animal Care team.
Talking ahead of the Open Day, Ellis Reid, a current HND Animal Care student said:
“At this years handling session in the animal care centre there will be lots of interesting animals to see from sugar gliders, hamsters and fish, through to rabbits, snakes and tortoises.
“It’s a great opportunity to hold and touch many unusual animals such as our blue tongued skink or our Royal python. I enjoy explaining what the animals are, what they eat and how to care for each different breed.
“Last year was an amazing day and this year will be even better.”
Other activities to enjoy are tractor and trailer rides, bird ringing, pony rides and machinery displays.
For school leavers or people thinking of a career change, information about jobs, training, and courses at SRUC will be available. People who are interested in part time study and the short courses available at Barony are also invited to find out more at the open day.
Barony Campus Open Day takes place on Sunday 31 May from 1pm-5pm. Admission is £5 per car; all proceeds go to the South of Scotland Wildlife Hospital.
