3rd PLACE FOR GALLOWAY LADIES AT EDINBURGH

On Sunday 17th April, 7 ladies from Galloway Cricket Club travelled up to Edinburgh to play in the last indoor tournament of the winter season. The team, representing the club based in Gatehouse of Fleet, was made up of Jessica McCulloch, Laura Scobie, Natalie Van Rooyen, Catriona Scobie, Ginger Ramsay, Alex Livingston and Natalie Hamblin.

Following a strong group stage performance, with Galloway being the top wicket-taking team, the Galloway girls made it into the semi-finals where they came up against the notorious MCA Storm from the Highlands! In the semi-final the two opening batsmen, Jessica McCulloch and Natalie Hamblin scored a tremendous 51 runs in their 5 overs, losing no wickets. Into the second innings and MCA Storm were trying to chase Galloway’s total however the determined team from Galloway dug in their heels and made it as difficult as possible for the opposition with their tight fielding and taking two exceptional wickets. Unfortunately due to a few last minute big hits, MCA Storm managed to beat Galloway by a small margin leaving Galloway in third place out of the 8 teams.

It was a very exciting tournament to take part in and it was nice to see so many new and familiar faces. The ladies are now looking forward to the outdoor season beginning in May. Outdoor training has already commenced and takes place every Monday and Wednesday 6-8pm at the ground in the Cally Woods in Gatehouse.
