First competitive/friendly of the season before the league season commences next week.
GCC took on a talented Dumfries Cricket Club eleven at our wonderful ground – has it ever looked better at this stage of the season? – in what turned into a thriller.
Galloway welcomed debutants: Andrew, Ajith and Akhil to the eleven – welcome boys!
Batting first DCC posted a competitive total on a slow and low typical Galloway early season strip – with contributions all the way through, the outstanding contribution coming from one of Galloways favourite sons Tommy McGrath – who, following a few early scares, went on to mercilessly punish anything short from the Galloway bowling attack…..a terrific knock of 84
However, this blitz apart, the Galloway bowlers can all be pleased with their efforts – ring-rustiness thrown off, and some aches this morning no doubt.
The Galloway teas were enjoyed – before the reply commenced.
Some ring-rustiness in evidence from the Dumfries bowlers who sprayed it to all parts of the wicket, meaning that when a decent ball finally came it caught batsman by surprise – such is cricket!
A stuttering start was calmed by the ever watchful and talented Patrick William Druce who along with debutant Akhil Sudhi slowly rebuilt the innings – before KAPOOOOOW!
Akhil launched into overdrive launching some of the biggest sixes seen at Cally. Tommy smashes it – Akhil smashes-smashes it!
With 25 needed the 8th wicket fell bringing Alex Mcmenemy to the crease and mounting pressure.
Batting with calm assurance Akhil and Alex finished the job – meaning GCC won by two wickets.
A great game.
