BUILD UP CONTINUES FOR THE 2014 RSAC SCOTTISH RALLY IN D&G

1 a 1 a rsac 4The build-up to this weekend’s 2014 RSAC Scottish Rally continued on Saturday with a successful preview day at White Sands in Dumfries. Supported by local driver Chuck Blair from Dumfries and RSAC Scholarship winner Blair Brown, organisers met with members of the public in glorious sunshine, to discuss the event and also give fans a chance to buy programmes. There were opportunities for those young and old to take photos of Blair and Chuck’s Peugeot 205 1.6 GTIs, as well as Steven Clark’s Mitsubishi Lancer, and even have a seat in the cars.
Jonathan Lord, Clerk of the Course said: “We have been delighted with how the preview day has gone and we would encourage as many people as possible to get along this weekend.”
“The Rally is a superb live sports event that is a great free day out for motor-sports fans and families.”
Scrutineering for the event will take place in Dumfries Ice Bowl from 2pm on Friday 27 June, before the cars embark to White Sands for an autograph session at 5.30 pm.
Following the ceremonial start around 6.30, competition begins with the Heathhall stage at 8:00pm. At such a convenient location just outside Dumfries town centre, this is a great opportunity for spectators to see the cars travelling at speed.
New for the 2014 event is “Jock’s” Super Special which takes place on the Saturday and includes jumps, hairpins and a cross over bridge which can all be seen from a specially designed spectator area. This stage, which takes the drivers south to Dalbeattie, has been included at the request of Dumfries and Galloway Council who want to maximise the publicity of the event and encourage those perhaps unfamiliar with rallying to experience it in an accessible format. The organisers are grateful to leading driver Jock Armstrong, his sister Barbara and their family for the use of the stage. Unfortunately the roads through Dalbeattie forest cannot be used while the competitors are in the area as they are currently unavailable for motor sport.
Programmes are available from the Ice Bowl, Ae Bikes Café and the Down’s Café in Heathhall. Seeded entry lists are available at http://www.scottishrally.co.uk/. You can also keep up-to-date via Twitter @ScottishRally and Facebook.
Stage information and links to Google maps for stage parking and access are available on the main event website and also on our mobile site scottish.graffitifactory.co.uk. The mobile site also includes co-ordinates for programming sat nav systems.
