Double Joy For Stewartry Keeps Them In 3rd Position

Stewartry completed the league double for the first time ever over old rivals East Kilbride as the Blacks battled on to hold onto third place in the Tennent’s West League One.

Stewartry 32 pts East Kilbride 15pts.

In the end it was a great display of running rugby by the young Stewartry team but East Kilbride shocked the Blacks with a penalty score in only four minutes to take an early lead.
It took Stewartry just seven minutes to show EK the speed of the Stewartry back division with Nicholson going clear to put Robert Austin in for a try Stewartry 5-3 ahead.

Stewartry carried the game from halfway into the visitors half TJ McCarney putting David Armstrong in for a second try. TJ continued to find his way through the EK defence setting setting TY Wilson in for the third try in twenty four minutes. Stewartry continued to take the game to EK with Robert Austin out running the defence for the bonus point fourth try.
Captain John Picken added the points for a Stewartry 22-3 lead at halftime.

Four minutes into the second half and it was try number five TJ and Picken combining well for winger Scott Milligan to score.27-3 Within a minute of the restart EK hit back with a converted try of their own 27-10. For the next twenty minutes EK were more into the game as Stewartry struggled in the scrums and lineout’s where EK were enjoying good possession scoring a third try in seventy four minutes. 27-15. The last word went to the Blacks when Robert Austin added the final try for his hat trick in the final minute .A great all round performance for the Stewartry in their first home game since October 16th.

This week Stewartry are away at Cambuslang kick off 2.00pm.
