Dumfries Cricket Club Ladies Season Starts with Victory

Dumfries Cricket Club Ladies Team travelled to Stirling to take part in the opening weekend of the Ladies West Development League.  There were four teams in action on Sunday and Dumfries were up against home side Stirling County Ladies Cricket Club.

Dumfries won a tight match by just 4 runs against Stirling County.

Dumfries Ladies were put into bat on a dry track in the Stirling sunshine and the Stirling bowlers set about their task of taking wickets, and they were able to make some early break trough’s putting Dumfries under some pressure in the middle order.  Rosy Ryan however was up to the challenge of putting Dumfries back in the game with a stubborn 33 not out.  Dumfries eventually posted a challenging 116 runs for Stirling to chase down.

Stirling ladies  started quickly and the Dumfries bowling had to remain tight to restrict runs, along with high standards of fielding from the Dumfries ladies.  It was Katy Anderson who made in roads into the Stirling batting attack, both restricting runs and picking up 2 valuable wickets.

The match came down to the last over with Stirling in the driving seat, however Dumfries Ladies held firm and secured the victory restricting Stirling ladies to 112 and were able to celebrate the 4 run victory on the journey home.
