DUMFRIES TEENAGER CHOSEN TO PLAY FOR GB LADIES UNDER 18s ICE HOCKEY TEAM

Local Solway Sharks Juniors player Rebecca Nicol was delighted to find out that she has been selected to play for the Great Britain Women Under 18s team.

After a series of tough trails involving young women players from all over the UK, Rebecca was chosen to be part of the team which will be playing in an international friendly tournament in Sheffield in early November.

Involving teams from Spain, Poland and Hungary, as well as Great Britain, the tournament will be a stiff test for the newly-formed team, and give the coaches an idea of how the team is shaping up against quality competition.

Becca, who attends St Joseph’s College, said, “I was absolutely thrilled to hear I had made the team. I’m really excited about the tournament, and looking forward to competing and seeing how far the team can progress.”

Solway Sharks Junior Chairman Graeme Houston said, “Everyone at the club is delighted for Rebecca, she has put in a lot of effort on and off the ice to make the GB team, and it is gratifying to see her commitment and hard work paying off. We all wish her every success going forward.”
