A Bit of a Bash for Galloway Ladies! – Cricket News

Galloway Ladies Cricket team travelled to Perth on Sunday 3rd December for the third of Cricket Scotland’s Wee Bash Indoor tournaments. Nine ladies made the trip to North Inch Community Campus where seven teams took part.  After success in Dumfries only a few weeks ago the ladies were disappointed in Perth with only one win against strong opposition from teams from the Central Belt.

The overall score was not a true reflection of the quality of play with many of the games being a close call.  Once again Galloway lacked strong batting skills and faced many sixes and fours from stronger opponents especially as the games were played in a split hall with shorter boundary walls. Galloway continues to show good fielding skills with the highlight being many catches and wickets taken.

The first game was against a strong team made up of players from Stirling and Dumfries.  Galloway took 4 wickets but lost out making 54 to “Stirfries” 69.

The second game was against Carleton a strong Edinburgh club. Galloway chose to field and Carleton made 49.  Two good catches by Julie McCulloch. The score was tight in the end and Galloway lost by only 4 runs.

Game three was a tough one against a strong Stirling side and Galloway lost 46 v 89.

Galloway tried to rally their spirits but a crushing defeat by Miegle was disheartening. This young team of enthusiastic players was supplemented a very strong teenager whose bowling was too much for the Galloway ladies who were all out.  I will not mention the score!

Team spirit prevailed however and Galloway fought back against Edinburgh South.  This team has two very talented youngsters aged twelve and thirteen supported by ladies from the club. Once again Galloway fielded well with 2 catches for Natalie Hamblin and one each for Catriona Scobie and Alex Livingston. Final score was Edinburgh South 49 Galloway 32.

The last game was against a young team from Stewarts Melville High School and Galloway’s only win. The fielding finally paid off.  Ginger Ramsay caught one ball behind the wicket and Alex Livingston claimed four wickets with three catches, one in midair, and she was unanimously declared Lady of the match for Galloway!
