Nifty Niamh in the runs and wickets – Cricket News

Dumfries CC Women’s XI (136-4) lost to West of Scotland Women’s XI (160-6) by 24 runs

The Dumfries Cricket Club women’s team competed with Galloway Cricket Club ladies against  West of Scotland women’s side with players from West and Glasgow University and narrowly lost by 24 runs.

The visitors batted first and lost an early wicket. However a 64 run second wicket partnership restored fortunes and good batting in the middle order took the final total up to 160 for 6 after their 30 overs. Nadia Tolliday was the top scorer with 47 and was followed by Nayma Shaikh with 33 in the later stages.

Jessica McCulloch took three wickets, including removing a middle stump. Rosy Ryan bowled tightly but with little reward as chances went down. Niamh Muir claimed two wickets in the field with two impressive run outs aided by keeper Sue Strachan, and catches were taken by Jess and Laura.

Niamh also starred with the bat as the top scorer with 41. That was after the locals had lost two early wickets. However an 81 run 3rd wicket partnership kept the side in contention but two key wickets fell to leave the score at 110 for 4 with ten overs to go with Rosy Ryan contributing 17.

The batting side was then not quite able to keep up that run rate against some tight bowling as the team side fell short as the overs ran out. Wickets for West were shared between Gardee, Tolliday, Trickett, and Mughis.

The first league game for the4 women’s team is on Sunday the 5th of May against Watsonians will be played at Gatehouse.
