SHARKS LEAGUE FORM CONTINUES AFTER HOME WIN

It’s a road double header this weekend for Solway Sharks at Sheffield Spartans and Sutton Sting – and the team are on a three-game winning streak in the League after a 6-4 win over Solihull Barons on Saturday at the Ice Bowl.

Before the game, Solway and Solihull players paid their tributes on Remembrance weekend and the Ice Bowl stood in silence to remember.

Once the game began, an all-action first period saw Solway ahead 4-3 after 20 minutes of offensive fireworks. Iain Bowie opened the scoring just 84 seconds in, and Michael Corbett netted a double in 6th and 9th minutes to put Sharks 3-1 ahead. Solihull replied before the mid point of the period and the sides traded goals in the 12th minute – Juraj Senko on target for Sharks – and it was a 4-3 game at first interval.

Stevie Adams lit the lamp at 22.33 to open a two goal lead, followed by Marc Fowley’s marker at 29.48 to put Sharks up 6-3 before the mid point of the game. Barons Tomas Janak reduced the arrears at 32.14 but remarkably that was the final goal of the game.

Sharks tightened up defensively and limited the clear chances of Solihull meaning the final 28 minutes were scoreless, leading to a third straight League win for Solway Sharks.

Speaking after the game, coach Martin Grubb said: “We played well and battled hard all night. Early on we struggled defensively but we settled and were able to shut the game down in the second half of the match.”

The following night Sharks travelled to Blackburn for an NIHL Cup match. Despite goals from Scott Henderson and Stevie Adams, the Sharks went down 4-2 for a second Cup defeat.

This coming weekend the Sharks are in Sheffield twice to play Sheffield Spartans on Saturday (3.45pm) and Sutton Sting on Sunday (4.15pm). They return to home action on Saturday 21 November with Spartans making the trip to Dumfries Ice Bowl (7pm).

Tickets are on sale from the Ice Bowl reception from 6pm on the night. Tickets are priced at £8 adults, £5 concession and a family ticket (2+3) is £16.
