This summer, the Movember charity is once again raising funds and awareness for men’s mental health, suicide prevention, and prostate and testicular cancer — through rugby.
Mo Rugby is a club that uses the sport as a way to open up conversations in male-dominated spaces and break down stigma. It’s a strong mix of competitive rugby and purpose: playing quality rugby, having fun, and supporting a cause that really matters.
This summer, Head Coach of Stewartry Rugby Club, David Thomson, will be helping do exactly that as he joins the coaching team at Mo Rugby.
David said: “It was a very proud moment for me to be asked to join as a coach for Mo Rugby. It’s a cause I’ve supported since I was about 13 — I used to grow a moustache every November for Movember. I’ve lost both friends and teammates over the years to suicide, so I’ve always been a huge advocate for men’s mental health and for breaking the stigma around ‘manning up’. Being able to talk about your feelings and not bottle things up is so important.”
“Mo Rugby gives the charity — and me — the opportunity to do both: enjoy some seriously good rugby while raising awareness for such an important cause. And of course, getting to wear a fantastic moustache in the process too!”
Mo Rugby will be playing in tournaments across Europe this summer, including stops in London, Edinburgh, the Algarve and Copenhagen — most recently competing at Bournemouth 7s this past weekend.
