STEWARTRY RFC TAKE THIRD VICTORY IN A ROW

Stewartry were looking for a third win in a row after a week without a game. Clydebank once again made it hard over the whole eighty minutes but a last minute try clinched the win for Stewartry taking the Blacks up to fourth place in the league.
Clydebank kicked off with wind advantage which swirled both ways through out the game causing numerous passes to go astray for both teams adding to the number of penalties given away by both teams making it a bit of a scrappy game for the good sized crowd.
A penalty to touch was missed in the first three minutes by Stewartry with Clydebank taking advantage to take play deep into the Stewartry twenty two. Stewartry fullback David Kerr eventually cleared the danger to the half way. Five minutes later it was Stewartry on the attack with a Craig Mosey penalty kick to touch in the corner. Stevie McCulloch won the lineout and the forwards drove Rory Porteous over for a try. Craig Mosey added the conversion into the wind. It only took Clydebank five minutes to get back on level terms with a wind assisted kick ahead to score at the posts. The conversion was added. 7-7. Clydebank missed the chance of a second score when they lost control of the ball over the try line. A driving run through the Clydebank defence by Douglas Boyd took Stewartry back to the Clydebank try line with Robert Wallace just failing to score in the corner squeezed into touch. On the half hour Stevie McCulloch broke clear to score a deserved try and reward for some good Stewartry pressure. Craig Mosey again converted. Just before halftime Clydebank closed the gap to 14-12 with a second try.
Stewartry kicked off the second half but the play was penalty orientated for the first ten minutes as both teams tried to master the conditions. Stewartry went further ahead in the fifty second minute when TJ McCarney scored his ninth try of the season. Clydebank hauled themselves back into the game with their third try seven minutes later, both conversions were missed. 19-17. The Stewartry back lines handling improved in the last quarter with a six man move earning the Stewartry a kickable penalty. Craig Mosey converted from in front of the posts to ease them five points ahead with only six minutes left. A pick up and twenty metre dash to the line in the last minute by the hard working Martin Smith took play to the Clydebank goalposts where Jamie Farquhar following up picked up the loose ball to dive over for the clinching fourth bonus point try. Craig Mosey added the conversion for a final score of 29-17 in a game that was about taking all you chances in the conditions with the swirling crosswind. Stewartry used all their replacements coming on throughout the second half.
