Third Defeat Out Of Four Games For Queens Ladies

Queens Ladies suffered their third defeat in four games at a damp Palmerston Park on Sunday.  Things started to go awry during the warm up when central defender/midfielder Charlotte Smith suffered an injury, although she did recover enough to come on late in the game.  Quieens struggked to deal with through balls in the early part of the game, and Harmony row opened the scoring in the 9th minutewhen one of their strikers outpaced the defence to shoot home.  Queens failed to learn their lesson and Harmony row repeated the feat in the 12th minute.  Queens settled a bit after that and tried to play their way out of trouble but despite getting some good cross balls into the area, the Harmony Row defence prevented any clear chances developing.

In to the second half and Harmony Row added a third goal in the 59th minute when the referee mysteriously awarded an indirect free kick for a passback despite the ball having been turned back to the keeper by Leona Smith using her knee.  The referee claimed it had come off her foot but nobody else in the ground appeared to share his opinion. Harmony Row took the indirect free kick and the ball was rolled to the side and fired low into the corner, leaving keeper Sophie Ingram with no chance.  Queens tried to get themselves back into the game, with substitutes Freya Brown and Charlotte Smith trying to push forward and a goal at last looking more likely.  It finally came in the 68th minute when a powerful strike from Megan Masterton rattled off the junction of post and bar, and as it came down, Lois Geddes was on hand to put it in the back of the net.  Queens continued to press for a second goal, but to no avail, and the game finished with the three points going north to Glasgow.
