THORNHILL RACE ACE ROSS WYLIE EXCITED AFTER FIRST TEST IN ASTON MARTIN

WYLIE EXCITED AFTER MAIDEN BEECHDEAN ASTON TESTING

Scottish youngster accumulates valuable mileage ahead of British series opener

Ross Wylie cannot wait for the opening rounds of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship after the Dumfries youngster’s first test in his brand new Aston Martin.

Twenty two-year-old Ross, from Thornhill, and his British GT series co-driver Jake Giddings, spent two days testing the GT4 class Aston at Portimão in Portugal last week (20-21 Feb).

“The test went very well,” confirmed the 22-year-old from Thornhill near Dumfries.

“I’d had a few minutes driving the car for a systems check at Prodrive’s private test track near Warwick earlier this month but this was the first serious test.

“The Aston is a real pleasure to drive but completely different to the front-wheel-drive Sciroccos that I raced last year. The rear-wheel-drive Aston feels more natural to me which I guess comes from my karting background.”

Wylie contests the entire 10-race series in the Beechdean Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage GT4. Further tests are planned early next month (5 Mar) before the opening two races at Oulton Park in Cheshire on Easter Monday (21 Apr).

Next weekend (1-2 Mar) Wylie attends “Get Race Fit 2014” an annual event at the Porsche Human Performance at Silverstone where attendees include former Formula One race ace Mark Webber.

Activities will be made up of seminars, Q&A sessions, practical workshops and physical training.

Ross recently passed his Association of Racing Drivers Schools (ARDS) Instructors practical and theory examinations at Silverstone which now allows him to drive at “experience” days, corporate days and manufacturer days.
