50 TEAMS COMPETE FOR ‘TROPHY D’ECOSSE 2016’ AT DUMFRIES ICE BOWL THIS WEEKEND

The Trophy d’Ecosse International Synchronized Skating Competition is being held in Dumfries this weekend.

Now in its 5th year, the event retains its status as Britain’s premier synchronized skating competition, it being the only regular International Skating Union event in Britain (International Skating Union (the ISU) is the world governing body for all skating disciplines.).

This year nearly 50 teams with 800 skaters will be competing at Dumfries Ice Bowl and with competitors from as far afield as California,USA and Brisbane, Australia and judges and officials from New Zealand, Finland, Australia, USA, Croatia, Netherlands, France and of course GB, it promises to be a truly international affair.

Dumfries’ own synchronized skating teams, Solway Stars, Solway Eclipse, Solway Lightning and Solway Comets will also be in action and are looking forward to performing at their home rink.

This year, Trophy d’Ecosse has benefitted from an award from Dumfries & Galloway Council’s Major Events Strategic Fund which has allowed some enhancements to be made to the venue for the athletes.

The event is free for spectators and all are welcome to come along.
