TWO SUCCESSFUL WEEKS ON THE TROT FOR STEWARTRY UNDER 18’s

Sunday October 29th saw a very tough game for the young Stewartry RFC squad against the second top team in the league, but Stewartry prevailed to leapfrog Cambuslang into 2nd Place and put themselves within striking distance of the league title.

Stewartry 37  v Cambuslang 17

Some great forward work winning line outs and scrums with ease, but “white line fever” once again kicked in with too many players thinking that they could score.

Man of the match was Ben Spence who tackled non stop from start to finish and made some great probing runs.

A good result against a decent side, but better teamwork would have easily seen another 4 tries.

After about 15 minutes the ball was passed out to Tommy McGrath who beat 3 to power over for converted try. After more pressure Alasdair Hannay stretched over to score converted  by Archie Picken.

Stewartry had won scrum but the Reds managed to get ball and turned defence into attack and scored converted try. This got Stewartry working harder and were rewarded with another try by Connor McGuire converted by Archie Picken.

The reds scored unconverted try just before half time 12-21. In the second half the Reds had wind advantage and had Stewartry defending . After a while they managed another unconverted try. Stewartry dug deep and dominated the line outs and Archie Picken saw a gap and burst through to score.

The wind was strong and his kick just drifted wide. More Stewartry pressure was rewarded with another try scored by Murray Wright and converted by Archie. Well done to the whole team Alasdair Hannay dominating the line out and Archie Picken filling the 10 jersey with confidence.

Everybody to a man must be congratulated for their effort.
