Last week (6-12 July 2025), RNLI volunteers supported the SkiffieWorlds in Stranraer by providing lifesaving water safety messaging.
Throughout the week-long event, a dedicated team of RNLI volunteers were positioned around the Stranraer RNLI Lifeboat Station and surrounding waterfront areas to engage with members of the public.
The RNLI volunteers delivered a number of water safety initiatives, including delivering lifejacket clinics, providing water safety advice and promoting the work of the RNLI.
The lifejacket clinics were available to the public and the majority of the competitors in the Skiffie’s boat races, where safety advice was given around ensuring an appropriate and functioning personal flotation device was worn whilst on the water.
Volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager at Stranraer RNLI Lifeboat Station, Sean Hannah, says: ‘The response from the public was overwhelmingly positive, with many taking the time to stop, ask questions and even bring along their own lifejackets for inspection.
‘Thanks to these valuable interactions – and the generosity of the local community and visitors – the team raised an incredible amount in generous donations throughout the week too.
‘We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all RNLI personnel who travelled from other lifeboat stations and support teams to assist during the event. Your contributions, knowledge and enthusiasm helped create a strong, visible presence that truly made an impact.
‘Lastly, I’d like to offer sincere thanks to the organisers of SkiffieWorlds for delivering such a well-run and uplifting event. Seeing Stranraer so vibrant, active, and alive with water-based sport and community spirit was a joy for all involved. We were proud to be part of it.’
