Stranraer Mother Walking To Raise Funds In Memory Of Beloved Son

Tragically Stranraer mum Megan Bark’s son James who was 41 died suddenly 6 weeks ago. In his memory Megan has been raising funds for SCAA – Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance.

Megan said “As a family we are totally heartbroken”. James received excellent care from  paramedics and a/e staff at the Galloway Community Hospital before being flown to Critical Care at DGRI by the SCAA  – Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance specialised team. James sadly died 4 days later when it became clear that he had suffered a hypoxic brain injury.

The SCAA are holding a fundraising campaign to complete 100 miles in October, so Megan wanted to raise funds by walking the challenge in James’s memory.

This has seen Megan take to the streets walking an average (3 – 4) miles each day.

The SCAA rely on donations to the charity to help save lives. They are based in Perth and travelled all the way from there to Stranraer to collect James. It took only 29 minutes to get James to the Critical Care Unit at Dumfries.

Megan added “I have had tremendous support from my youngest son Ross who is keeping me motivated and accompanying me in my daily miles”. So far Megan has clocked up 87 miles, with friends, family and members of the community having kindly donated over £1900, but Megan is hopeful of reaching her fantastic target of £2000 before the challenge ends next Monday.
People who live in the rural location of Wigtownshire including Stranraer and district may need to use this service so it is imperative that we highlight what they can do for our population. I am proud to have 30 years service with NHS Scotland and would like thank all staff who treated and cared for James.
