A new art gallery is opening its doors down at the old Bladnoch Creamery this December.

Unit 3 Gallery is in a delightful position facing the River Bladnoch, over the bridge from the Distillery, and down the hill from Wigtown, Scotland’s booktown … another enhancement to the burgeoning art scene in Galloway.

Hosted by Dowling Stoves, but independent of the business, it aims to display work that challenges the norm, arranging bi-monthly exhibitions of work from within and from beyond the area, that ‘stretch the mind a bit’, as Steve Dowling puts it. We are advised to expect the unexpected.

The first exhibition, called ‘Down with Gravity’ opens on Monday 8th December, with the preview on the previous Saturday night (6th December) and features the work of kinetic sculptor David Williams. David now lives near Monreith, but hails originally from the Black Country.

He has taught in art colleges around Britain, and his work is displayed world wide. Some of you may know of him from meccano maquettes in some local shop windows; here’s a chance to see the real things in all their glory, as well as thought provoking wall pieces.

Opening times will be between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday, unless otherwise stated on line (www.unit3gallery.co.uk) – please call 01988 402 666 for more information…
