Road Improvement Work Continues – A701 Jericho Quarry to Amisfield

Essential work started last night and continues this evening on the A701 between Jericho Quarry and Amisfield, Dumfries as part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road maintenance programme.

In order to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement full overnight closures of the trunk road again tonight Friday 17thAugust.

Michael Pagan, Scotland TranServ’s Area Network Manager for Dumfries and Galloway said:

“We’ve been in consultation with local authorities, key stakeholders and emergency services to coordinate this short programme of works. Due to the narrow road widths within the scheme, it will be necessary to implement a full road closure in order to carry out the works and protect the health and safety of our workers and the travelling public.
“Scotland TranServ is proposing to carry out essential maintenance on the A701 from the Jericho Quarry junction to Chocolate Bridge, north of Amisfield. Variable message signs are being erected along the A701 to provide drivers with plenty of advance notification of the works.”

Works will be carried out overnight, with the A701 closed during the following times:

  • 7pm Thursday 16th to 6am Friday 17th August
  • 7pm Friday 17th August to 6am Saturday 18th August

Drivers are advised to provide additional time for their journey. Full details on the diversion route are available on the Scotland TranServ website. For live updates motorists are asked to visit trafficscotland.org, or follow @trafficscotland on Twitter.
