ARKLESS GEARS UP FOR CHRISTMAS WITH A VISIT TO LOCAL SORTING OFFICES

MP for Dumfries and Galloway, Richard Arkless visited Sorting Offices across the constituency in the run up to Christmas to see how the Post Office is coping locally with the increased demand that comes with this busy period. On Friday 11th December he visited the Dumfries Sorting Office and followed up with a visit to the Office in Stranraer on Saturday 12th. He will also be visiting the Newton Stewart depot during Christmas week.

Mr Arkless commented:

“It was a pleasure to see the staff at both offices in action. Morale is high and I am grateful to see how things work behind the scenes so Christmas can happen for thousands of families in the Constituency.

“I took the opportunity to speak with trade union officials and management in the sorting offices, this helped to build a picture of what the different challenges facing the post office are year on year. A point I took away was the interesting drop in the amount of cards sent, and an increase in the number of parcels being delivered.”

Mr Arkless continued:

“It is a rare opportunity to see this many constituents at the same time. My focus was on telling staff at both offices that if there is anything at all I can help with, they should get in touch with me.

“They work hard for us all year round, and I wanted them to be reassured that I am there to represent and work hard for all of them.

“I want to thank the staff in both sorting offices for arranging my visit to see them and the work they do every day to keep our postal service working.”
