DGWGO FRIDAY FOCUS 2/5/14 SPORTS DRIVING UNLIMITED

1 a 1 a Dugals Friday FocusSports Driving Unlimited is a small charity based in Lockerbie and people of all ages from across D&G take part in our activities. We enable people with impairment to participate in sports carriage driving. We work with other voluntary groups and local schools to make the activity as widely available as possible.

Sports carriage driving offers people with impairment the challenge of a exciting, dynamic, activity that stimulates all their senses. Meeting the challenges of this exciting sport leads to improvements in physical and mental well-being and it builds confidence, self esteem, an immense sense of achievement and it’s great fun too!

People of all ages participate at different levels, some just for fun and relaxation other enter local, regional and national competitions. Earlier this month 4 of our young drivers, Charlotte Thomson [cerebral palsy, wheelchair user] Graham Smith [cerebral palsy], Samuel Parker [hearing impairment] aged 10 and Lewis Shaw [visual impairment] aged 14 competed at the national indoor driving championships in Bedfordshire.

We never have enough funds for the demand and welcome all donations which can be made by post to the address below and via our website or at our donation page www.localgiving.com/sportsdriving

Sports Driving Unlimited is a finalist in Scottish Charity Awards 2014 and we need votes – lots of votes! We are shortlisted in the ‘Sporting Chance’ category and also for the ‘People’s Choice Award’ which is decided by public vote.
