Driver Caught With 280 Cannabis Plants In Car Near Lockerbie

Road Policing officers recovered a quantity of cannabis after they stopped to assist a motorist on the A74 (M) near Lockerbie.

Around 11am on Monday, 20 March, 2023, officers on patrol found a grey BMW 5 Series on the hard shoulder, about one mile south of Junction 17.

The driver was making a temporary repair to his wiper blades.

Officers detected a smell of cannabis within the vehicle and a search revealed 280 plants worth around £1,400.

A 43-year-old man from Doncaster was arrested and charged in connection with the recovery.

Sergeant David Kerr said: “Drugs cause misery in our communities and Police Scotland is determined to bring those responsible for the supply of illegal substances to justice.”
