During the current severe weather in Dumfries and Galloway many local shops are providing an invaluable service to their local communities. With many roads in and out of the region closed or only passable with care and much of the rail service suspended, people are appreciating what their local outlets have to offer. Whether it is just the corner shop for essential supplies or the larger stores for Christmas shopping our local businesses are proving their worth during this period.
Dumfries and Galloway Council would like to thank the region’s businesses for the service they continue to provide throughout this difficult time and would like to encourage the public to support their local shop owners. Local shops and businesses are proving vital to their local communities, whether local high street shops or local cafés for warm food and hot drinks, all are proving that there is a huge network of small businesses offering fantastic products and services, on our doorstep.
Because people are currently not able to travel to larger towns and cities out with the region, local shoppers can take this opportunity to shop local and enjoy everything that local businesses have to offer.
Councillor Colin Smyth, Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee said: “Building the local economy is our major priority for our Council and we should all support our local businesses at all times, not just turn to them in times of dire need. The severe weather has proved the availability, diversity and resilience of the businesses trading in our region and the service they provide to their customers is invaluable. Whether it’s a local café offering artisan foods or a local garage that can repair your car, it is at times like these that we really appreciate the worth that our local businesses provide.”
