DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY AUTHORS GET INVOLVED WITH LOVE LETTERS FOR BOOK WEEK

Love letters to your local library

As part of the national Book Week Scotland celebrations (24 – 30 November) library customers and local authors have been writing Love Letters to show what libraries mean to them.
Attached are extracts from some of the letters,

Nithsdale – Giancarlo Rinaldi – Love letter to the Ewart Library, Dumfries
Wigtownshire – Jayne Baldwin – Love Letter to Newton Stewart Library
Stewartry – Charlotte Anne Taylor – Love Letters to Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas Library
Annandale – Renita Boyle – Poem to Book Lovers everywhere.

Other ways to celebrate the unique pleasure that can be gained from a good book
• You can make a reading pledge at your local branch. You could pledge to read in your lunchtime, recommend a book to a friend, join your local library or download an ebook.
• There is still time to declare your love for a local library by writing a heartfelt letter.
Love letters can be handed into your local branch library.
• Free copies of ‘Scotland’s Stories of Home’ are available from every branch library.
• Children can take part in a character treasure hunt in every branch.
Events
Join in the first ‘Human Library’ at Ewart Library, Tuesday 25 November 7pm. Small groups of 1 – 4 people can ‘Borrow’ a selection of human books who will read to you for a short time. Featuring Renita Boyle, Hugh Bryden, Jayne Baldwin, Mostly Ghostly, Vivien Jones, Giancarlo Rinaldi, Graham Roberts, Alison Burgess and Andy Nicholson as Human Books.
Book titles will include ‘Vikings of Dumfries and Galloway’, ‘Mary Timney Road to the Gallows’, ‘The Dumfries Theatre Royal’, ‘Munro Bagging’ ‘An Introduction to Artists Books’ and much more..

Join Stranraer Library as they celebrate ‘Women in Writing’ with Jayne Baldwin, Renita Boyle and Vivien Jones. Wed 26th Nov, Stranraer Library, 7.00 – 8.00pm Join local authors for a relaxed and entertaining evening discussing their own works and inspirations.
