DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY PHOTOGRAPHERS LEEMING + PATERSON WORK ON DAYLIGHT PROJECT WITH VELUX

DAYLIGHT UNFILTERED
VELUX goes back to nature and reveals unfiltered photography collection
Leading Scottish photography duo, Leeming + Paterson, have been commissioned by daylight experts VELUX, to create a collection of photos that perfectly capture the all-encompassing nature of daylight and its effect on Scottish landscapes.

In a digital world where everything is manipulated and filtered, Ted Leeming and Morag Paterson were challenged to avoid using filters or polarisers. Instead, the collection of 13 photos has been stripped back to nature and draws upon the unbridled natural beauty and light of the locations in Loch Ken, Blackwater of Ken and Galloway Forest Park.
Morag Paterson said: “I run past this area every day, and I always notice how different it looks from one day to the next. The mood and atmosphere completely change depending not only on the weather, but on which part of the river I’m looking at.

“Shooting completely naturally seemed like a challenge at first, but we were so intrigued by the incredible light, textures and colours that we came across that after a while it didn’t seem to matter.”
Ted Leeming added: “Daylight is one of the most important factors in landscape photography, and the amount of light available strongly dictates where you can shoot. As any landscape photographer will tell you, dusk and dawn are ideal for capturing interesting light, but rules are always made to be broken – we captured these shots in the middle of the day and the effect is amazing.
“Photography is so subjective. You can head to a venue with a preconceived idea in mind but if you arrive and the conditions aren’t what you expected, you have to adapt to what’s available and might come away with an entirely different image to the one you had planned. In essence, that’s the beauty of working with natural light, and photography.”

The photography has been commissioned for The Daylight Project, an online community site launched by VELUX to highlight the importance of exploring daylight and its effect in all aspects of our lives.
