Flood Recovery Community Conversations Set to Take Place Across Dumfries and Galloway

Community Planning Partners want to understand the views of individuals, families, communities and businesses affected by the flooding event on 30 December 2022.
A series of Community Conversations are set to take place across the region in response to the recent severe flooding that has affected householders and businesses.
The Community Conversations will initially be held in locations impacted by the recent flood.

They will take place in the following locations:
• 13 February 2023 5pm to 7pm Dalbeattie Town Hall
• 15 February 2023 5pm to 7pm Kirkton Village Hall
• 20 February 2023 4pm to 6pm Tynron Parish Hall
• 21 February 2023 6.30pm to 8.30pm The Bridge Dumfries
• 2 March 2023 5pm to 7pm Stranraer Customer Service Centre

The flood recovery Community Conversations are informal drop-ins, whereby members of the public and businesses can access flood recovery information and engage with representatives from a range of council services and partner organisations.

Organisations, householders and businesses can speak to officers and partners from the Council Roads and Infrastructure, Benefits and Grants, Business Support and Flood Teams; the Scottish Flood Forum; Social Landlords; and certain Utility providers.

The flood recovery Community Conversations will also involve the Community Resilience Groups, where active in the neighbourhoods.

Dumfries and Galloway Council Chair of Communities Committee, Councillor Archie Dryburgh said: “The flood recovery Community Conversations are an opportunity for those affected by the recent flooding to seek support and to engage directly with the relevant officers and partner organisations to aid their recovery and to influence how we, as a region, mitigate against future flooding in our communities.

“The support and input of householders and businesses will help us to prepare for future severe weather events.”
Dumfries and Galloway Council Vice Chair of Communities Committee, Councillor John Campbell said: “Flood Recovery Community Conversations are being held in key locations across the region and we are particularly keen to hear from and to support those from the worst-affected communities, as well as wider areas.”
