MSP Hails Johnstonebridge Centre as a ‘fantastic testament to community endeavour’

Joan McAlpine has encouraged community groups and others to make full use of the new Johnstonebridge Centre. Ms McAlpine supported efforts to fundraise for the centre and visited for the first time last week to join the Wednesday Lunch Club and Bingo.

The centre includes a state of the art theatre sound and lighting system, catering facilities, mother and toddler room, meeting room, disabled toilets and even a cinema screen.

Ms McAlpine said: “ I have been talking to Fred Dale from the Community Council for several years about fundraising for the centre and invited the then sports Minister, Shona Robison for a visit.

“It’s fantastic to see the dream become reality and is a credit to the community being a living wage employer. Prices are very reasonable and they are reduced for groups within Johnstone Parish. I would encourage businesses to look into room hire and I know the centre is on the look out for Keep-Fit and Yoga instructors and I can highly recommend it.

“It’s a fantastic testament to community endeavour and what can be achieved when people come together for the good of all.”

Ms McAlpine has also written to the council at the centre’s request asking for improved road signage. She said:
“The hall caters for the dispersed population of Johnstone Parish and understandably they want everyone to know exactly how to find it! “
