Last year, the people of Dumfries and Galloway came together in an unprecedented way to provide life saving aid for people in crisis across the globe. Although their efforts were amazing, sadly the issue has not gone away, and millions more people are displaced and in need of our kindness.
Soon, the refugee camp in Calais will be destroyed leaving over 10,000 people displaced, almost 1,000 of them children (unaccompanied minors). To keep them safe and protected, we need to get them sleeping bags and phone credit, and luggage so that they can keep what little they have with them.
Moxie DePaulitte from MOOL Told DGWGO “We have developed links with other agencies and can get safe passage for goods into camps in Lebanon. We can send most types of clothing there and they are currently welcoming sewing machines, wool and knitting needles, which enable a little self sufficiency amongst the camps inhabitants.
There are many ways people can help. They can arrange to be collection hubs across the region; come on the day to donate or sort items; bring boxes and strong bin bags; donate refreshments; come and learn more about who we are and what we do; collect new, unused underwear as part of our ‘Drop Your Pants’ campaign; or donate financially (details on the poster) which allows us to provide more instant results where they are needed most.”
