MORE FUNDS RAISED FOR KIRKCUDBRIGHT SKATE PARK

Greyfriars Church are the latest group to support Kirkcudbright’s bid for a skateboard facility at Gartshore Park, and this week a cheque for £160 was presented to some of the Skatepark committee members. Greyfriars Church had previously invited the Skatepark members to have a presence at their annual Winter Wonderland event, which was held in the Parish Church hall in December. This has become a traditional event, where Santa parks his sleigh on Ross Island, and then travels by boat into the harbour to distribute his presents.

As a result of this opportunity, a total of more than £320 was raised, and the young committee members were also able to distribute information and listen to people’s thoughts on the facility.

The team sold some official Kirkcudbright Skatepark T-shirts, which are also now available at Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool, and used colourful exhibition boards to show off many of the fantastic logo designs created by Kirkcudbright’s young people. They also spent the day distributing the skatepark survey, and were able to collect a further 80 responses in addition to the 100 already received online.

Vivien Dania of Greyfriars Church said: “Winter Wonderland was a great success, raising a total of £1600. The main priority is the maintenance of the church itself, but each year we try to set aside some funds to support a local charity. We are delighted to make this donation to the young people at Kirkcudbright Skatepark, and wish them every success with their venture”.

Alan McClure, Chairman of Kirkcudbright Skatepark Committee said; “We’d like to thank Greyfriars Church so much for allowing us the opportunity to exhibit at Winter Wonderland, which meant that we were able to talk to lots of people and answer their enquiries, and tell them about our hopes of having a skatepark in the town. We’re thrilled with this monetary contribution and it’s great that we can work together in this way to benefit the young people in the town”
