Dumfries and Galloway Council has launched a new website dedicated to the Whitesands Flood Protection Project.
The new site brings together detailed information about the major scheme planned for the Whitesands area of Dumfries and will act as the central place for updates as the project progresses.
Visitors will be able to follow the development of the project through regular updates, including construction progress, project news and blog posts from members of the project team.
The Whitesands project forms part of the wider River Nith Programme, which aims to improve flood resilience, transport connections, public spaces and environmental quality along the River Nith corridor in Dumfries.
As well as the flood protection scheme itself, the programme includes several related projects:
- Whitesands Flood Protection Scheme
- Upstream environmental enhancement project
- Whitesands active travel project
- Bus reconfiguration project
- Dockhead junction refurbishment
According to the council, work on the approved flood protection scheme is expected to begin in spring 2026.
The newly launched website allows residents and businesses to explore the proposals in more detail, view planning documents and keep track of how the project develops over time.
