POLICE PROBE LATEST SPATE OF BREAK-INS IN DUMFRIES

Police Scotland is investigating three housebreakings which were discovered in Dumfries over the weekend. A house in Lochfield Road was broken into sometime between 10 and 21 February 2016. The house was searched through however at this point nothing appears to have been stolen.

A house in Kindar Drive in the town was broken into sometime between 1240 hours and 1530 hours on Saturday 20 February 2016. Cash and gold necklaces and a bracelet were taken in the raid. In a third break-in a house in Annan Road, on the outskirts of the town was discovered broken into on Sunday 21 February 2016. Again jewellery and cash appear to have been the target.

Police also received a call regarding a suspicious man who was seen in the Beech Avenue area of Summerville at around 1400 hours on Saturday 20 February 2016. The man is described as being in his mid 20s, 5’8”-5’10” tall, medium build, short dark hair, round face, pale complexion and was wearing a dark coloured waist length jacket, perhaps with white stripes down each arm and dark tracksuit bottoms or jeans. This man approached a householder in the area and indicated that he was checking drains after the severe weather. He was refused entry to the house after asking. The man was last seen running off towards the bus stop on Glasgow Road near Tesco and was then seen to enter a dark coloured estate type car.

Police are treating the matter as suspicious and an open mind as to whether it is connected with any of the break-ins. Detective Inspector Dean Little at Dumfries said “we are delighted with the response of the public to our recent appeal for any sightings of suspicious activity in the community and ask them to keep it up. We will, with the assistance of the community catch those responsible and again appeal to the public to call us at the time on the 101 number.”
