PORTPATRICK LIFEBOAT INVOLVED IN NORTH CHANNEL SWIMMER RESCUE

On Saturday the 13th of August  at 4.00pm the Portpatrick Lifeboat and Local Coastgaurd team were tasked by Belfast CGOC to help evacuate a north channel swimmer from a support vessel off the Galloway Coast.

Portpatrick Lifeboat launched to evacuate channel swimmer from support vessel off Portpatrick at around 4.00pm, the rescue helicopter 999 was also on scene. The vessel was safely escorted into Portpatrick harbour by the Portpatrick Lifeboat the ‘John Buchanan Barr’ . The Coastguard  team tasked to prepare landing site for the helicopter.

The casualty was then transferred from support vessel to waiting ambulance and taken by road to Galloway Community Hospital in Stranraer.
