ARKLESS WELCOMES RESURFACING WORK BUT SAYS MORE MUST BE DONE TO IMPROVE A75

A four week programme to resurface the A75 from Sandgreen Junction to Cardoness Castle using environmentally friendly techniques will commence on Monday 25 July 2016.

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland will carry out the works, which will involve resurfacing over 2km of the route. Drainage, barriers and signage will also be renewed as part of the project.

Commenting on the work,  Dumfries and Galloway MP Richard Arkless said:

“I drive the A75 constantly and know it like the back of my hand – this particular stretch of road has the worst surface on A75 so I am pleased that it will be resurfaced.”

“However, there is still much to do to bring this road up to the standard that you would expect of a Euro Route.  I have meeting’s scheduled with Transport Scotland and Transport Minister Humza Yousaf to discuss improvements to both the A75 and the A77 – I would like to see some major improvements – resurfacing work is welcome but it simply does not go far enough.

“I’ve gathered many submissions from many local people and encourage more people to get in touch so I can keep pressure on Transport Scotland and the Scottish Government.

“I intend to be front and centre of the forthcoming Dumfries and Galloway Transport Summit which is to be chaired by Deputy First Minister John Swinney.

“Improving transport links across our region will boost our local economy, create and safegaurd jobs and reduce journey times for local and visitors alike.

“I will make sure that improving our major roads are top of the Scottish Government’s agenda.”
