Barriers are One of the biggest impediments there are for fisheries to fulfill their maximum potential.
By removing them we can generate more space for fish which means more young fish in the river and ultimately more adult fish in the river for anglers to catch. Road crossings are an area that sometimes gets forgotten as they are often tiny burns. These burns are really important for trout in particular and in some areas we have chopped the tops off the burns. We do not have the resources to survey them all but we can map where they are most likely to be and we would love a number of people to step forward and visit them all.
Often a photo is all we need to be able to see whether they are likely to be a problem. We did a quick survey last week and out of 25 structures we surveyed in one day 10 were an issue. Check out https://www.facebook.com/RiverAnnanTrust/photos_stream
The more people we can get to help us the better as we will then be able to get all of the problem areas recorded and seek a way of addressing the problem in a strategic way. If people want to help they can email me at [email protected]
