Ongoing Disputes Over Pay, Conditions, and Workload
School teachers in Dumfries and Galloway are preparing to strike next week as members of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) and Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association (SSTA) plan to form picket lines for two days.
The EIS and SSTA argue that teachers in Scotland have faced a real term pay cut in recent years, and that increasing workload and class sizes are making it difficult for teachers to do their jobs effectively.
Council Plans for Free School Meal Provision during Strikes
Dumfries & Galloway Council have announced plans to provide free school meals for students during strike days. The council stated that arrangements are being made for meal provision on the planned industrial action days and that this information will be communicated directly to pupils.
Additionally, packed lunches will be available for collection on the day before the strikes for students who are eligible for means-tested free school meals. It is expected that catering staff will be present at school on the strike day.
